The majority of policies include something along the lines of "As soon as it is possible to do so the Assured shall give written notice to the Underwriters of any occurrence that may give rise to a claim under this policy."
It is also important, particularly where liability policies are concerned, that no form of correspondence is entered into with a claimant. All communications received by a policyholder must be forwarded to us immediately, unanswered.
The most important thing to remember is: if in any doubt, NOTIFY. You will not be penalised now, or in the future, for notifying an incident that does not give rise to a claim.
